What is the President's MILE?

The President’s MILE is a deliberate set of experiences grounded in best practices in student retention, student success, and student engagement.

In essence, the goals are to (1) inspire academic confidence; (2) motivate a cadre of men to promote student learning and development collaboratively; (3) develop principled leaders characterized by human understanding, citizenship, and social change; (4) integrate classroom learning with educationally purposeful leisure/discretionary time, helping students better take advantage of informal time so as to help them overcome academic and personal boredom; and (5) enhance the practical competence of students both individually and collectively, focusing on time management, decision making, and study skills to name a few.

MILE Overview

TAVION LACY WINS $5,000 HT SCHOLARSHIP

(AUSTIN, Texas) — 7.13.09 Tavion Lacy (blue shorts) from Dallas, Texas, impressed the judges with his dance moves during the Huston-Tillotson University’s Enrollment Fest to pickup a $5,000 scholarship for the Fall 2009 semester. Lacy and a dozen other new students participated in a weekend of activities as part of the University’s Male Initiative on Learning and Excellence (MILE). The program is designed to engage first-year male students in innovative educational experiences anchored in academic achievements and college success.

The Enrollment Fest featured performances by local artists and Huston-Tillotson graduates such as Judy Arnold, George Powell, and Deric Lewis. The event allowed potential students to showcase their singing, dancing, or musical talents, tour the campus, talk to faculty about majors, visit with admission counselors, and apply for the start of the fall semester.
